The Joy of the Lord is your strength!

“The joy of the LORD is your strength!” (Neh 8:10) “Rejoice in the LORD always, and again I will say, Rejoice!” (Phil 4:4)

Joy is a “fruit” – evidence – of the Holy Spirit in your life. When Jesus is in you He will show. J The presence of His joy in your heart gives you strength to face your circumstances with a supernatural peace and contentment. Paul said, “I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am” (Phil 4:11) and “I have learned the secret” (v12). May the LORD bless you with His joy that you might say with Paul, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” (v13)

September brings opportunities for your spiritual growth. Two studies begin Sunday, Sept 11th. “Captivating” to help women grow in their walk with GOD. “Overcoming Emotions that Destroy” to help you become aware and wise in dealing with your emotions. Financial Peace University has it’s fourth session Sept 11th.  Twelve students are learning a lot about being good stewards of their finances.

Reaching out to others is important to Jesus. He tells us to “go and make disciples”. His command is for everyone who believes in Him. How we respond to His commands is a reflection of our faith. Jesus wants to greet you one day with, “well done, good and faithful servant”.  Being a “good servant” means reaching out to others. You can do this any day during the week. If you struggle with never getting a “round-to-it” then I have good news!  …just mark your calendar for Sundays at 5pm and join us as we call and meet families who have attended our church!

September is our special month to pray for Tennessee State missions. We join more than 3000 other Tennessee Baptist churches to pray and give a special offering to help support our Children’s Home, starting new churches, reaching lost people, growing strong churches, and many other state mission efforts. One such mission event is the Sunday School training on Sept 8th at Belle Aire Baptist Church. (I hope that all our Sunday School teachers and workers have that date on their calendar! J) Please pray about what the Lord wants you to give to this special missions opportunity.

On September 9-17th I am going on a mission trip to Ecuador, South America with my dad and brother Sherwin. We will preach a week long crusade in the church dad started fifty years ago now called “Dios Es Amor” (God is Love). This is the church I was baptized in at 7 years old. Please pray for us and for Bro Russell Richardson as he preaches in my absence.

May the LORD strengthen you with His Peace, His Grace and especially His Joy! Jesus is a close to you as your faith can see Him!

Bro Shelby
